Komatsu completes Dash 8 medium-to-large excavator range

With the launch of the PC350-8 and PC450-8, Komatsu now offers a complete range of ‘Dash 8’ hydraulic excavators from 21 to 200 tonnes. These two latest ‘dantotsu’ (unique and unrivalled) machines are top of the class in safety, operator comfort, machine management, fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness.

The machines are designed to offer total safety for both operators and people around them. They feature a unique roll-over cab design that took three years and € 1 million to develop. Tests have shown that even if the machine rolls down a slope, the cab’s tubular steel frame keeps the operator unharmed. In addition, the excavators include a travel alarm, blind-spot mirrors and a rear-view camera as standard, helping prevent accidents.

Besides being extremely safe, the cab provides a very comfortable and quiet working environment. It includes a large LCD monitor that puts all necessary information at the operator’s finger tips, as well as proportional controls for easy operation. The excavators also offer quick couplers and standard attachment lines, making them even simpler to use.

Both machines include the Komtrax satellite tracking and monitoring system as standard. With Komtrax, all the data available through the excavator’s monitor panel is also available remotely via any internet-connected computer. This greatly simplifies machine management and reduces downtime due to maintenance.

Thanks to a new electronically controlled HydrauMind smart hydraulics system, the PC350-8 and PC450-8 boast lower fuel consumption than previous models. In addition, four distinct eco modes and an eco gauge help the operator work in the most fuel efficient manner possible for the job being carried out. Furthermore, a unique Fuel Monitoring System (available via Komtrax) helps simplify fuel management through accurate calculations of the machine’s current and average fuel consumption.

The new Dash 8 excavators are powered by Komatsu’s environmentally friendly ECOT3 engines. Using an innovative blend of technologies, ECOT3 engines are fully compliant with EU Stage IIIA emissions regulations while delivering excellent fuel efficiency and high power output. They are also very quiet to run, helping the PC350-8 and PC450-8 meet level 2 environmental noise restrictions.
