Short-tail excavator stands tall in the market 15/06/2007
Komatsu’s new 13-tonne PC138US-8 ultra-short-tail excavator is ideal for use in confined areas. As the latest in the company’s advanced ‘Dash 8’ excavator range, the PC138US-8 offers unrivalled machine management, operator comfort, safety, fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness.
Offering easy yet powerful machine management functionality, the PC138US-8 is fitted with the Komtrax satellite tracking and monitoring system as standard. With Komtrax, all the data the operator sees on the excavator’s monitor panel is also available remotely via any internet-connected computer. In addition to the machine management benefits, this also helps reduce downtime for maintenance.
The PC138US-8 is designed to offer total safety for both operators and people around them. It features a unique roll-over cab design specifically developed for hydraulic excavators. Tests have shown that even if the machine rolls down a slope, the cab’s tubular steel frame keeps the operator unharmed. In addition, the excavators include a travel alarm, anti-slip steps and a rear-view camera as standard, helping prevent accidents.
Besides being extremely safe, the cab provides a very comfortable and quiet working environment. It includes a large LCD monitor that puts all necessary information at the operator’s finger tips, as well as proportional controls for easy operation. Noise suppression covers ensure a best-in-class noise level at the operator’s ear of just 72 dB(A). Both the front and back of the excavator’s upper structure have a rounded profile, allowing the PC138US-8 to work easily and safely in confined areas or where obstacles are present. And for maximum versatility, the PC138US-8 is available with optional blade assembly and rubber road liners.
To maximise fuel efficiency and productivity, the operator can choose between five working modes: power, economy, lifting, breaker operation and attachment operation. In addition, the PC138US-8 is fitted with an eco gauge that helps the operator work in the most environmentally friendly way for the job at hand – with maximum fuel efficiency and minimum nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions.
The PC138US-8’s ecological credentials are further boosted by its powerful yet efficient SAA4D95LE-5 engine. Part of Komatsu’s innovative ECOT3 range, this electronically controlled high-pressure common-rail engine is fully compliant with EU Stage IIIA emissions regulations which come into force for this class of machine in January 2008. In addition, the engine is very quiet to run and, together with a unique low noise design, ensures the PC138US-8 meets EU noise regulations with a dynamic noise of just 100 dB(A).
