Attachments extend versatility of telescopic handlers 20/07/2007
Komatsu has recently released two new telescopic handler attachment types: carriage winches and man platforms. The company already offers a selection of attachments including carriage hooks, jibs (with winches), various forks and a variety of buckets. This wide choice makes Komatsu’s WH series among the most versatile telescopic handlers available.
Carriage winches
Hydraulically controlled, Komatsu carriage winches give greater flexibility for lifting large and heavy loads. They can be easily controlled through the two attachment switches on the handler’s control joystick. Thanks to a powerful hydraulic motor, the carriage winches can lift loads up to 3000 kg in complete safety and with great flexibility.
A ‘slow speed kit’ will be included on all handlers that use a carriage winch. Controlled via a switch in the cab, the kit reduces the winch speed as required to give greater control.
These new carriage winches expand the range of uses for Komatsu machines, particularly in the construction industry. Construction applications demand high-performance machines with precise controllability – two key features of all Komatsu telescopic handlers.
Man platforms
Komatsu also now offers four models of man platform: from a basic fixed platform to a highly versatile rotating and extensible version that can be used in many different applications. Each of these models can be fitted to any of Komatsu’s telescopic handlers. They are suitable for several sectors from construction to public utilities, and are particularly useful for rental companies as they make the machines more adaptable.
The platforms are equipped with a remote control that allows the operator to position the handler’s arm from the platform with the same precision as offered by the cab joystick. As they can perform three simultaneous movements, the platforms can be moved very close to any obstacle.
These attachments are fully compliant with the CE safety directive for man platforms (2006/C 180/05), which came into effect in August 2006. The platform structure has passed the most stringent stress and strength tests, ensuring the highest durability and performance.
