Komatsu Europe and Topcon Europe join forces 06/08/2007
Machine Control available on all excavators and bulldozers
Vilvoorde, Belgium. Japanese firms Komatsu Ltd and Topcon Ltd have translated their worldwide cooperation into an effective relationship in the European market. This new alliance offers customers the best of both worlds with Topcon’s automated machine control system available as a pre-installed option on all Komatsu excavators and bulldozers. Under the agreement, three-dimensional (GPS- and LPS-based) and two-dimensional (laser and sonic) machine control systems manufactured by Topcon will be offered through Komatsu’s European distribution network with the support and assistance of Topcon distributors.
Market leaders
Both companies are at the top of their respective fields, and by sharing their complementary expertise they bring new benefits to their customers. Each partner will focus on its own markets, but will share specialist knowledge to enhance productivity for the end user. Through the use of innovative techniques, the two market leaders will confirm and strengthen their positions.
Productivity opportunities
“Komatsu’s decision to partner with Topcon was based on two key factors,” says Mr. Tsutomu Sakurai, CEO of Komatsu Europe. “Firstly, Topcon brings many technological advantages, extensive experience and a respected position in the worldwide machine control market. Secondly, Topcon is the only manufacturer that offers the ability to receive all signals from all available satellites, delivering valuable productivity opportunities that GPS-only systems cannot match.”
In-field support
Komatsu and Topcon will share information to ensure the Topcon control platform and specified Komatsu machinery maintain complete compatibility at a core technology level. Topcon’s highly productive machine control systems can be installed and operated seamlessly. All ‘machine-mounted’ Topcon system components can be ordered directly from Komatsu, and arrive at the distributor pre-installed and ready-to-use. ‘Non-machine-mounted’ components (such as GPS base stations, robotic control instruments, laser transmitters, etc) will still be sold through the Topcon distributor network. Customers can access in-field support from Komatsu or any authorised Topcon distributor. Each company will offer repair services staffed by employees with the best know-how for their respective field.
Greater efficiency
For both companies, this agreement offers a vital opportunity to provide more efficient use of earthmoving equipment all over the world. This in turn will help ease the demands on existing infrastructure by enabling faster construction methods with less disruption of resources and lower financial and social stress on local communities.
