Introducing Qmax teeth: the GET system with more bite
03/03/2008

Komatsu’s new Qmax system is a low-cost ground engaging tool (GET) option that improves digging performance and productivity for Komatsu utility machines up to 12 tonnes. These high-quality teeth are quick and easy to change, helping owners cut downtime and increase efficiency. And by reducing waste, they are kind to the environment too.

Designed in Italy, Qmax teeth have a unique shape and are self-sharpening. Together, these features ensure better penetration leading to higher productivity, lower fuel consumption, greater precision and longer service life.

Manufactured to the highest engineering standards, the Qmax system has excellent stress tolerance, wear resistance and breaking strength even in hard or rocky materials. All components are produced to the tightest tolerances using a high precision cast metal moulding process for a perfect fit between adapter and tooth. Furthermore, a rigorous testing procedure guarantees quality and the ability to withstand the harshest conditions.

The system’s pin fixing means teeth can be changed extremely quickly with no specialised tools and no welding. A simple hammer tap removes the pin, allowing the old tooth tip to be pulled off and a new one secured with a new pin. The whole process takes a matter of seconds, allowing one operator to replace all the teeth in just a few minutes. Moreover, only the tip and pin ever need changing, so there is 50% less scrap metal – and that can be recycled to minimise waste. This reduces costs and environmental impact.

“Komatsu believes in using technology to deliver tailored products that help our customers improve their day-to-day operations and market position,” said Dirk Verstraeten, GET product manager at Komatsu Europe. “Qmax is the latest example of this. Like its bigger brother Kmax, Qmax is a patented innovation that has undergone months of field testing. It has thoroughly proven its ability to improve all-round efficiency and reduce cost for utility machine customers.”
