JLG EMERGENCY DESCENT – ARTICULATED – 1500AJP

From Ground

the ground controls are to be used in an emergency to lower the platform to the ground should the operator in the platform be unable to do so.

Platform or Boom Caught Overhead or Boom Movement Prevented by Boom Control System

Lowering the boom onto an object or structure may cause the boom control system
to prevent movement of the machine. This can include movement necessary to lift
the boom off the object. Additionally, if the platform or boom becomes jammed or
snagged in overhead structures, movement of the boom can be regained by doing
the following:

  1. Shut off the machine
  2. Rescue all people in the platform before freeing the machine. Personnel must
be out of the platform before operating any controls on the machine.
  3. Use cranes, forklifts, or other equipment to stabilize motion of the machine to
prevent a tip over as required.
  4. From the ground controls, use the Auxiliary Power System to carefully free the
platform or boom from the object.
  5. Once clear, restart the machine and return the platform to a safe position.
  6. Inspect the machine for damage. If the machine is damaged or does not
operate properly, turn off the machine immediately. Report the problem to the
proper maintenance personnel. Do not operate the machine until it is declared
    safe for operation.

1500AJP Auxiliary Power System — Ground-Control Procedure

For an emergency where the boom/platform needs to be moved and the engine cannot be used:

  1. Remove all personnel from the platform before operating the ground controls where the emergency procedure calls for it.
  2. At the ground control station, turn the Platform/Ground Select key to GROUND.
  3. Pull out the Ground Power/Emergency Stop button.
  4. Locate the Engine Start / Auxiliary Power / Function Enable switch.
  5. Hold the switch DOWN to operate the auxiliary pump.
  6. While continuing to hold the switch DOWN, operate the required ground-control boom function.
  7. Use the auxiliary power only for the required movement and release the auxiliary-power switch when the movement is complete.
  8. If the machine has been freed from an obstruction, return it to a safe position and have it inspected before further operation.

The manual warns that simultaneous operation can overload the auxiliary pump, so functions should be operated carefully rather than trying to move several functions at once.
